Venice Supper Club - Fall Palette Photos

Back in November, Steph (owner of Five by Five Catering) and I held a supper club in my back patio. It was my first time ever cooking 10 dishes for 11 people. Fortunately, all I to do was follow Steph's lead. We made a website that had tickets, designed menus, rented a huge table with classy flatware, bought fresh flowers, spray painted apples... the works! Unfortunately, since we were cooking all night, there are only two photos of the food. MY BAD.

Big thanks for everyone that came!

We split up the menu to prep and cook. Thank the cooking gods Steph took most of it. The Rustic Jalapeno Squash Pups with Fried Herbs (above) was my favorite dish to cook. I roasted squash, added herbs, and tossed them in the food processor. Then I covered them with cornmeal and rolled oats. At the end, I fried basil and tarragon for some more crunch. Then, I threw some of Julius' Scotch Bonnet Pepper Jelly on the top. Wa-lah!

Here's the full menu:

The wine was custom-paired by Elvino Wines on Abbot Kinney.

Sukhumvit Soi 38 Night Market

In retrospect, I wish we could have come back here. Why you ask?! Oh, because we had the best Somtam (papaya salad) and Pad Thai here.

We ended the night with a to-go mango and sticky rice. Condensed milk, the butter of Thailand. See how entertaining it looks on the bed!

Chinatown in Bangkok

Tang Jai Yoo is known for their Roast Pig, but we were feeling crab at the time.  The curried sauce on the crab was too eggy for my taste. I wish we had ordered a simpler-fresher seasoning, like green onion and ginger. Even though it's so damn hot in Thailand, I'm usually craving bright, fresh, warming foods rather than heavy, warming foods.

The sauce on the side was most excellent! It had a spicy, tangy-lime taste that complimented the thick sauce on the crab. I'm a big fan of preserved limes so this sauce hit the Puno spot. Hm... there's gotta be a better way to say that

There was a funky (as in style, not smell) lady outside of Tnag Jai Yoo that had a cart full of steamed buns with duck egg inside. We had one, then turned around and bought another.

We found this Pad Thai shop on the way out of China Town. We were looking for another Pad Thai place from Mark Wiens' blog, but we didn't have much luck. When you're hungry, you're hungry.

Um... no?

Is that a jean skirt? Um... no?

What program did you use?

I made this drawing with photoshop. :)
